Join the volunteer team at Lamb House

Following a period of restoration, new areas of Lamb House are now open for the first time in 50 years. Keeping these special places for ever for everyone relies on a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who have and will continue to bring Lamb House alive.

Hear from a volunteer

We asked Jane, a former teacher and Lamb House volunteer, to explain what she enjoys about giving her time to the property.

‘It all began with a growing love of Rye. I stumbled upon Lamb House, hidden away on an unassuming cobbled corner, while exploring this delightful town.

‘The atmosphere inside is that of a real home, warm and inviting. The combination of this together with the colourful history of the building itself and the inspiration discovered here cast a spell and has kept me volunteering.

‘I fell in love with the house, the beautiful, unexpected gem of a garden, have enjoyed learning more with each season plus finding encouragement to read more of the books by Henry James and E.F. Benson. It feels a privilege to share time here with the many visitors.’
